“The Pumpkin Heist” by Deborah Gregg Halloween is just around the corner and the cats really really wanted a pumpkin of their own this year. The patch down the road was full of them. Beautiful big ones too. It didn’t occur to them that it was the pride and joy of the witch who lives there. They made their plan and sure enough. It could not have been easier! They joyfully marched along with their big orange pumpkin, unaware that the Witch watched the whole thing ( the bright lantern helped, Ha! ). Lucky little group, she loves Halloween and her precious pumpkins, but she also loves cats! “A Romeo And A Juliet”

Back in time when true love was often put aside, two people meet at the edge of the woods.They are so right for each other, but their families would disapprove and keep them apart if they knew. They make plans there in the light of the full moon to elope and come what may, they will be together. P.S. Progress is being made with decorating the large pine in front when the dachshunds were struck with a powerful surge of Christmas Spirit! Off they go with a couple of strings of lights out onto the hill, kicking and hopping around….so pleased with themselves as usual. Their joy is infectious and the tree will wait. Plus the battery powered lights look really beautiful dancing and tumbling along under the greater lights of the Moon and The Milkyway. A young couple is just bringing in small load of Christmas trees from the forest (assisted by Betsy the horse and Larry, the dog) just as the Winter night puts on a beautiful light show. The full moon just clears the horizon, shooting stars streak through the heavens, the other stars out in force unaware of how wonderful they are! As the bats flit about stealing popcorn, the flock’s annual Halloween play has reached the big final scene, where the witch flies across the golden full moon. Everyone is enchanted and also a bit apprehensive (there were a few minor injuries during rehearsal for this rather risky scene) as the “witch” is hoisted up and floats perfectly along! Way to go! You have to know it’s not easy, every one else has given in and let go but not this one…taking it one day at a time and hanging on for just a bit longer. I have a lot of respect for that little leaf! (and any one even remotely like that little leaf!!)

What a day!! The flock has taken the Blue Ribbon for the biggest pumpkin at the annual Pumpkin Weigh Off! It was quite an ordeal getting it there and now it’s quite an ordeal getting it home… but they are all so happy and proud they don’t mind a bit. They all put in a lot of hard work to grow this beauty from a tiny green baby to the giant prize winner that it has become. Oh and Aunt Hatty’s book…”Pumpkin Recipes For All Seasons” will be well used this winter!!
