“What Was That?”

by Deborah Gregg
She holds her best friend ( Betty the barn owl ) on one hand, and in the other, a candle, held as high as she can to light the leafy path. They knew they should not have taken this “short cut”. At the moment, everything that goes bump in the night seems to be in these dark woods. Eyes can be felt watching them as they walk slowly along tossing threats like…” Oh really? Well then, Bring it Buster!!” into the deep woods.. They are grateful for each others company and as they come safely out the other side, they vow never to take that path again! Late for the Halloween party or not! Their new motto….Arrive Alive!. :) A tiny, primitive style folk art painting, done with acrylics on acid free,140 lb. watercolor paper. “Delicate Operation”

by Deborah Gregg
It immediately showed promise as a tiny green baby and they have been caring for it daily since. Now it truly is on its way to winning the blue ribbon for the flock in the “Biggest Pumpkin” competition at the Harvest Festival. Its serious business at this delicate stage. Eleanor checks its “life force” with her stethoscope, Harold gives it more liquid nutrition, Mable keeps its orange, smooth surface free of dirt, Marvin is settling in for night watchman detail, equipped with a strong cup of coffee, and last but not least, Junior is on the hunt ( using his trusty little red flashlight ) for possible threats by bugs up to no good. An impressive group, Master gardeners all! A tiny, primitive style folk art painting, done with acrylics on acid free,140 lb. watercolor paper. Has a protective finish, signed on front and back.An ACEO ( Art Cards, Editions and Originals ) This piece measures a tiny, 2.5″ tall and 3.5″ wide (image shown is larger than the actual painting). “The Pumpkin Heist” by Deborah Gregg Halloween is just around the corner and the cats really really wanted a pumpkin of their own this year. The patch down the road was full of them. Beautiful big ones too. It didn’t occur to them that it was the pride and joy of the witch who lives there. They made their plan and sure enough. It could not have been easier! They joyfully marched along with their big orange pumpkin, unaware that the Witch watched the whole thing ( the bright lantern helped, Ha! ). Lucky little group, she loves Halloween and her precious pumpkins, but she also loves cats! This small painting is done with acrylics on 140 lb, acid free watercolor paper with acrylics. it has a protective finish and measures 4″ tall by 6″ long. (It is best matted and framed, not included) The copyright notice is on the digital image only, not on the actual painting. The original was recently sold on Etsy. I would be happy to paint one for you for $62.00 . This includes shipping and insurance. Have a Wonderful Day!

The weather is cooperating this year as everyone heads to Grandmother and Grandfathers house the night before Thanksgiving out at the Country Mill. Extra quilts are drying on the line and coffee and rolls are warming on the wood stove for the travelers!. Happy Holidays!! :)

“A Watchful Eye”

November 1st, 2009

by Deborah Gregg

The November night brings a soft, steady snowfall to the little country home, slowly covering the buff, dormant grass. A light shines in an upstairs window - someone is still awake, having trouble falling asleep. So many worries, they are deep in prayer, finally giving it all to God. And on the hill above the house, two Angels have just begun a new assignment to carry blessings and safety to the much loved souls that dwell here, and to keep a watchful eye. Bundled against the cold ( Border Collies are Naturally dressed right for this weather), they even brought some hot tea and a chew bone for a chilly night “pick me up!” God Bless Us Everyone!

Witches are usually seen as not too nice and up to no good…but not this one, really more of a “Do Gooder” sort. A goofy one at that but she has a heart of gold. Instead of wreaking havoc on Halloween night she visits an isolated village somewhere in the world and assisted by her crew of one, her trusty tuxedo cat Jingle Bells, passes gifts and toys out to the children… from her big velvet bag. Yeah I know, it just so happens that Santa is her BFF! And he’s just full of great ideas! Happy Halloween everyone!

It’s too soon, it won’t stick…but it is so beautiful! Snow in October. Everything about Autumn is rich. The falling leaves, a hot drink in the crispy morning air, the golden landscape, the wild stormy clouds scudding along, geese flying ahead of the northern cold blasts, sheep with their thickening woolly coats, and a good companion to share it all with. God Bless the Harvest!!

The wonderful Earthy autumn months are just as good a time for love to bloom as the Spring. Everyone feels good with the cupboards full, looking to get cozy….all creatures come together then looking for safe shelter, storing up food, working with each other to make it through another winter. And the Wizard has fallen for the Witch. Love blossomed in the light of the full Harvest Moon. And a side note: love has also happened to a pair of round little pumpkins. I know…you wouldn’t think…and two black cats. Love is everywhere! A tiny, primitive style folk art painting, done with acrylics on acid free,140 lb. watercolor paper. “I Think That’s a Real Witch!”

by Deborah Gregg
You must keep your wits about you in this neighborhood on Halloween night. As the children go around collecting goodies a Witch passing through decides to give the kids a good scare by flying low over the trees and cackling as loud as she’s able. And the gentle Moon smiles sweetly for she knows that this particular Witch is really quite harmless, in fact she’s on her way to the annual ” Birdwatchers of the Boonies Marshmallow Roast”! I know…sounds like good times.. :)  A tiny, primitive style folk art painting, done with acrylics on acid free,140 lb. watercolor paper. “October Willow In The Wind”

by Deborah Gregg
When the October winds kick up the group (and at this time of year the jolly Jack ‘O Lanterns are always welcome!) gathers under the big Willow on the hill and take turns swinging their cares away. Simple things are the best. :)
