"When faced with an overwhelming situation, what you actually need to do is to “Do the next thing.” Wash the dishes, run an errand, take a shower. There is always something small and manageable that is the next thing to be done. Do it right away.

And then do the next thing after that. Every time you start to spiral, stop yourself and do the next small thing. Then do the next thing again. Say it out loud. Write it on
a sticky note. Set a Siri reminder. And pretty soon the next thing will be to go to bed, and that means you’ve gotten through the day.
